Phoebe Evans profile picture

Phoebe Evans

Consultant Biostatistician

Phoebe Evans is a part-time consultant biostatistician, trainer and course assistant at CSTAR. She has a keen interest in data visualisation and statistical education. Her statistical software of choice is R/RStudio. Phoebe graduated from UCD with a BSc in Statistics and has previously worked at the Central Bank of Ireland and the Central Statistics Office.

Quentin Le Cornu

Consultant Biostatistician

Quentin Le Cornu is a full-time consultant statistician and trainer. He holds a Master of Rehabilitation, Disability, and Motor Performance Engineering from the University of Jules Verne Picardie, and a Master of Biostatistics, Public Health Research, and Clinical Research from the University of Paris-Saclay. Quentin's previous experience includes work with Inserm U1153 and the Clinical Investigation Center (CIC 1414) in France. His main research interests are clinical epidemiology and research methodology. He is committed to promoting scientific integrity and reducing research waste.

Katayoun Bahramian

Research Manager

Kat is the Centre Administrator and Research Manager. She coordinates consultations, marketing and event management. She graduated from the University of Washington, Seattle with a Master of Public Health in Community-Oriented Public Health Practice. Kat is passionate about patient & public involvement in cancer research, mountain trails, Neapolitan pizza and baked goods. If your dog looks like Chewbacca or is named Tayto, please send her a photo.

Akke Vellinga

Professor

Prof. Akke Vellinga is an epidemiologist with a focus on infections and antibiotics. She holds a HRB Research Leader Award to set up the CARA network (caranetwork.ie), Collaboration to reduce Antimicrobial use and Resistance and identify opportunities for improvement and Awareness. The CARA network aims to provide an infrastructure where data from general practice can be uploaded, analysed and visualised in interactive dashboards.

Akke is also the Irish lead for ECRAID (European Clinical Research Alliance on Infectious Diseases (ECRAID.eu)) and ValueDx (value-dx.eu), providing a platform to implement clinical trials in general practice to test treatments for new and current infections. She grew up in Antwerp, Belgium and moved to Ireland in 2005. Prior to joining the UCD, she was in the School of Medicine at the NUI Galway.

Carla Perrotta

Associate Professor

Dr. Carla Perrotta is an Associate Professor in Public Health with diverse research interests spanning Knowledge Synthesis, Implementation Science, Clinical Effectiveness, Primary Care and Patient Safety. She is also the co-director of the Health Data Analytics program within the Advance Centre's Micro-credentials initiative.

Her goal is to support the learning of data-savvy healthcare professionals. She ​favours working environments where individuals, regardless of their professional background, hierarchy, accent, or identity, can freely express their ideas and are encouraged to challenge preconceived or imposed narratives; academic excellence and innovation can only thrive in environments where diverse voices are heard, respected, and valued.

Cathal Walsh

Professor

Prof. Cathal Walsh is the Professor of Biostatistics in the School of Medicine at TCD, having previously held the Chair of Statistics at UL. His research interests are in evidence synthesis and disease modelling, and he was part of the Irish Epidemiological Modelling Advisory Group, working within the Health Protection Surveillance Centre during the COVID-19 pandemic.

He has been an advisor to the National Centre for Pharmacoeconomics on statistical methodology for Health Technology Assessment for over 15 years, and has been the trial statistician for clinical trials in stroke, dementia, depression and activity interventions.

Dr Garrett Greene is a Lecturer in Statistics with an interest in applications of statistics and machine learning in medicine and biology, and in particular modelling of digital health data, and computational neuroscience. He is also the Programme Director for the MSc / Prof. Dip in Data Analytics in the School of Mathematics & Statistics.

Associate Professor

Dr. Michael Salter-Townshend is an Associate Professor of Statistics in the School of Mathematics & Statistics and a statistician specialising mainly in genetics and network analysis. His interests are in population genetics, recombination, polygenic risk scores, pedigrees and breeding, plus social network analysis. He develops and applies statistical models to both human and domestic and wild animal datasets.
